As soon as we landed, we got settled into our place and traveled out to Little Beach to watch the sunset and see the fire dancers in action. Not shown: some whales breaching in the distance! Afterwards, we got a quick 3 hours of rest before heading up to Haleakala Crater to see the stars and watch the sunrise, before going on some hikes and exploring the north side of Maui.
January is a great time of year to see the Humpback Whale moms spend time with their newborns in the warm waters of Hawaii. If you look closely in the distance, you can see some whale features poke out of the water!
We drove all around Maui stopping off at Kealia Pond, plenty of stops along the Road to Hana, and Ioa Valley State Park. Notable stops on the Road to Hana include: Ke'anae Arboretum, the black sand beach at Wai'anapanapa State Park, the red sand beach at Kaihalulu Beach, and Wailua Falls. With fantastic weather, the only issue was not having enough time to see everything!
