Weekend exploring Yosemite Valley with some local experts!
Highlights include: cocktails at Ahwahnee Lodge, sunset on Sentinel Dome, multi-pitch trad up After Seven into After Six, and then top roping a burly 5.10c offwidth called Generator Crack!
We set off towards Los Padres National Forest shortly after Thanksgiving festivities ended. After camping a night in gale force winds, we began our trek of anywhere between 15 - 19 miles (sources varied) to get to Sespe Hot Springs. Finding an excellent spot by the pool, we enjoyed the waters in the evening and morning before returning back to the trail head.
Not Shown: Mountain Goats on the hillside and Tim worrying about losing Katherine
We did a 33 mile loop with 9420ft of elevation gain around Yosemite visiting most of the highlights in the park. The most brutal aspect was descending 4800ft in one shot after summiting Half Dome.
We scored some last minute permits to backpack the Lost Coast between Mattole and Black Sands Beach. If you like long walks on the beach (around 24.6 miles worth of it), than this is the hike for you! We abided by the tide charts (unlike some questionable groups) and safely crossed the impassable zones at low tide, even if that meant hiking at 2am to start and 5am on the last day.
We scored some permits to hike the Rae Lakes Loop (41.4 miles with 7,844ft of elevation gain) over July 4th weekend. we spent 5 days exploring mountain lakes and streams and were able to take a side hike to the 60 Lake Basin before coming over Glen Pass(11,926ft) on the JMT/PCT and descending back to Roads End.
